Discipline 04 · Program Execution

Visibility that drives execution

Every program depends on the right people seeing the right things in time to act. We build the one picture that makes sure they do.

The Starting Point

Built so the sponsor can read the program quickly

Most of what a program reports is noise standing between the sponsor and the two or three things that matter this week. We put those on one picture instead: the workstream that's behind, the risk closest to becoming real, and the pending decision creating a bottleneck, with the evidence to support each one.

The pitfall

Where it goes wrong

The sponsor gets a forty-slide status deck and still cannot point to the workstream that's actually behind, the risk closest to becoming real, or the decision that's theirs to make next. Workstreams report green until the week they report red, with no time left to react.

Our approach

How we resolve it

The VCG Transformation Visualizer puts the program on one picture the sponsor can read at a glance: the roadmap against the go-live date, the workstream that's behind, the risk closest to becoming real, and the decision on someone's desk, each with its evidence and owner. Every item points to the discipline that resolves it, so decisions land with the person who has to make them, not in a log. Readiness and training get their own owner through CapabilityVision™.

What your team sees

A note on these screens

The screens below are from an illustrative engagement that used the Transformation Visualizer to map the client's future state. They're not a specification or a product: content changes with every client, but the framework doesn't. Small tags mark each item's discipline, and every item connects to what resolves it, no matter which discipline owns it.

For Program Execution, that starts with the sequence itself: the roadmap to the April go-live against the renewal beyond it, with two tracks whose duration has not yet been established shown as dashed, not guessed at.

Once the sequence is set, the open items come into view: fifteen risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies and decisions, each with its evidence and its owner, or the fact that it has none.

Screen showing a RAID log of risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies and decisions, each with its evidence, severity and owner, or marked unassigned where there is none.

From there, ownership rolls up to the workstreams themselves: seven workstreams with health and the reason for it, four of them still without a named lead.

None of this happens in isolation: the three screens above are the Program Execution node on this spine. Below is the spine itself, the 360-degree view the Transformation Visualizer builds to tie all six disciplines into one engagement, where every risk and decision on these screens points to the discipline that actually resolves it.

What CapabilityVision™ is, and where it connects

CapabilityVision™ is VCG's structured, assessment-driven framework for workforce capability: five career stages measured against six capability pillars, giving one common language for capability. The Transformation Visualizer identifies the workforce need; this is where it gets built and confirmed through assessment.

Every engagement starts with a conversation about where you are and what's actually at stake, not a pitch for the biggest scope we can sell you.
